Unable to open an office file on Sharepoint server post M365App migration

Below is a small kb which allows you to resolve problems related to opening a file on a SharePoint OnPrem server from a client having migrated from Office 2016 to the M365Apps solution.

Correction

To correct the issue, you must clear office cache and Rename a registry key.

Clear Office cache :

  • Close all Office 2016 app
  • Navigate to C:\Users username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Office\16.0
  • Rename the folder 16.0 to 16.0_old

Rename the Registry Key

  • Open "Regedit"
  • Navigate to Computer \ HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Software \ Microsoft \ Office \ 16.0 \ Common \ ServicesManagerCache
  • Rename ServicesManagerCache to ServicesManagerCache_old
After applying all of these changes, you can again open your files hosted on your SharePoint server.
